RVP Hits Our Funny Bone With The Savannah Sipping Society
What the script (by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten) lacks in depth, this outstanding cast makes up in hilarity and sensitivity. The script is replete with humor that keeps the audience laughing.
As directed by Tina Taylor, the four distinct character actors are definitely well-cast, and their comedic pace is brisk. The opening references to Artificial Intelligence and the Southern drawl and music set the tone. The opening yoga routine, with its stresses and strains, is but one of many very funny bits.
Sumi Narendran Cardinale (Jinx) is classy, beautiful, and superb as the experienced Life Coach.
Mary Bishop (Dot) skillfully regresses and releases the angst she’s been repressing a very long time, related to her Grandmother. There are several memorable scenes –
just more comedy than pathos.
The role playing give and take between Monica Snell (lovely Randa) and Heather Shepardson (strong Marla Faye) is hilarious.
The fabulous costumes were Designed by Miles Smith. The minimalist Set Design (by Tom O’Brien) adds nothing to the action and takes nothing from our attention on the actors. The cut-out parts of the set are expertly constructed by Michael Walraven. The Lighting Design (by Ellen Brooks) and Light Board Operation (by Halina) supplement the lightness and laughter evoked by the fine acting. The Sound Design (by Billie Cox), would be enhanced with wireless clothing microphones. It would be great to hear the dialogue as clearly as we can hear the good music choices (especially at the opening and supporting Jinx).
