42nd Street Moon continued its great Salon Series this time honoring the works of lyricist Alan Jay Lerner at the Eureka Theatre on May 11 and 12th.. Guest star Nancy Dussault who I saw in 1960 in “Do Re Me” that starred Phil Silvers, Nancy Walker, David Burns and John Reardon in “Do Re Me” at the St. James.  Since then she went to star in “The Sound of Music”, “Bajour”, “Side by Side by Sondheim” and “Into the Woods”.  The legendary singer appeared with such regulars Kelly Britt, Ryan Drummond, Anil Margsahayam, Darlene Popovic and Allison F Rich. Throughout the evening Greg MacKellan gave interesting insights into the life of this very talented lyricist who wrote the lyrics to some of America’s greatest composers such as Frederick Loewe, Kurt Weill, Burton Lane and Charles Strouse.

“Inventing Champagne”” featured 40 songs that were written by this prolific lyricist.  Featured were songs from his major hits “My Fair Lady”, “Camelot”, “Paint your Wagon” “Gigi” “Brigadoon” “One a Clear Day” and many from his lessor known works “Carmelina”, “Love Life”, “Dance a Little Closer”. “Lolita, My Love”, “The Day Before Spring”  Also included were songs from the film “Royal Wedding”.

Opening the cast did lusty version of “The Lusty Month of May” from “Camelot”  There were great solos sung by the talented cast plus duets, trios, quartets and of course the complete cast singing “The Night They Invented Champaign” at the end of the program .  Nancy Dussault had terrific resonate vocal cords singing a song usually song by a male singer “Get Me to the Church on Time” from “My Fair Lady”.

This was a great night of entertainment by this gifted cast of singers and actors.  It was a grand night of singing.   This concluded the spring season for 42nd Street Moon.  The company will return to in the Fall with Noel Cowards “Sail Away”.
