A Great Night with the Cast of “Book of Mormon” at Reaf One Night Cabaret
On Monday May 18th I attended the Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation’s annual “One Night Only” concert and this time featuring the National touring cast of “Book of Mormon” with special guest star Katya Smirnoff-Skyy as co-emcee along with Ron Bohmer who plays several roles in the musical including the role of Joseph Smith. The show was aptly called “Come Together” featuring the music of The Beatles.
The Benefit was for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and the Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation of San Francisco and held at the Marines Memorial Theatre in San Francisco. It was a great night of singing and dancing by the youthful cast of this sparking musical.
Opening the two hour show was Lacretta Nicole and the cast singing a rousing version of “Come Together”. Ron Bohmer and Katya took center stage with Katya hilariously talking about her life in her Zza Gabor accent.
Jamaal Wilson took center stage belting out “All My Loving” and seguing into “Something”. Dana Nicholson followed singing with pitch perfect resonance “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”.
Daniel Plimpton and Ian Liberto did a great song and dance to “Octopus Garden” and this was followed by Kelechi Ezie and company gloriously singing “Blackbird”. Ron Bohmer once again took center stage and along with Zurin Villanueva vibrantly sang “Oh, Darling!” Antyon LeMonte and company held forth agreeably singing “Boys”. JR Bruno poignantly sang “I Saw her Stand There” while Michael Buchanan against a film background of the fight for same sex marriage vividly sang “Revolution”. The first act ended with several members of the cast came center stage to sing 8 Days a Week” while seminude members of the cast came into the audience with buckets to secure additional fund for the AIDS foundation.
During the intermission auctioneer Lenny Broberg auditioned several items which included Dinner with four cast members at 25Lusk Restaurant in Soma which went for $1200. Also auditioned off was The Ultimate Backstage Experience which including sitting with Elders Price and Cunningham in their dressing rooms prior to the show, a backstage tour, meeting the entire cast and watch the performance from the wings. This went for $1300. The final package was called “The Pampering Package” which included a $1000 shopping spree at Bloomingdales and then get beautified with a $1500 gift card at EpiCenter MedSpa on Sutter Street. This went for $1800.
The second act Katya came onto her own singing and stunningly performing her song from her own show “”Back in the USSR” This was followed by Adam Ray and friend exquisitely singing “Hey Jude” Dana Nicholson and Zurin Villanueva came center stage to luminously sing “Because”. Antyon LeMonte twisted and shouted out the song “Twist and Shout”. Dayna Dantzler, A J Holmes and Keziash and John Paul harmonize on “If I Fell”. A J Holmes stayed on stage and with the company in the background impressively singing “You Never Give me Money”. The whole cast came onto the stage for the final number which was “Let It Be” and took their well-earned bows. There was the post party in the lobby of the theatre where the cast of “Book of Mormons” met some of the audience who paid extra for the privilege.
