‘Deathtrap’

Theater report…
‘Deathtrap’ at Ross Valley Players…
It’s hard to say much about the plot of this play without giving away too much but it’s really not so much about the plot, as it is about the characters and their motivations…
It’s interesting that this 1978 Ira Levin play, which was made into a movie in 1982, seems so dated, (think typewriters and carbon-paper) with continually changing protagonists throughout the show…but it does work for the play’s genre, (a Hitchcockian ‘dramedy’) and director Chloe Bronzan does a super job of keeping both the laughter and the thrills a-coming, in a show which is constantly laughing at itself.
If you’re confused, all will be explained by Bronzan’s cheerfully capable cast, featuring real-life husband and wife duo Amber Collins Crane and Gregory Crane, Marsha Van Broek and Tom Reilly, all RVP alumni, joined by dynamic Bay Area newcomer Bryce Smith in his RVP debut…
Kudos also to fight-choreographer Richard Squeri…

RVP patrons will also be tantalizingly titillated by this theatrical romp while comfortably ensconced in the recently installed new seats and the addition of risers, which add ample leg-room, making the RVP ‘barn’ location a whole new Marin pleasure to experience!
